Latest PowerPC boosts SBC processing, cuts power
The PowerEngine7 series is based on the latest IBM PowerPC 750FX processor, and is claimed to deliver higher performance and lower power consumption than any other board on the market.
VME boards gain further 2eSST support
Thales Computers now provides support for 2eSST transfers on VME systems running under LynxOS.
This makes the PowerEngine7 ideal for demanding environments found in many military and severe environment applications.
The new PowerEngine7 SBCs feature single or dual PowerPC 750GX processors, operating at 1GHz, providing extremely high performance at more than 2320 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS, estimated SPECint95 and SPECfp95 values of 52 and 32, respectively, while drawing a very low 17.5W of power for the entire board.
Both convection-cooled and conduction-cooled versions of the 1GHz PowerEngine7 are currently available to meet application needs ranging from benign/development to the harshest mission-critical environments.
The new SBC includes up to 512Mbyte of SDRAM memory and up to 128Mbyte of Flash memory.
The performance of the PowerEngine7 is enhanced by the Avignon host bridge system controller, which is optimized for use with the PowerPC processor, as well as the ALMA2e PCI/VMEbus bridge, providing the capability for 2eSST transfers.
The PowerEngine7 series features ample I/O, including two PMC slots (one PCI 64 at 66MHz, one PCI 32 at 33MHz), two 10/100Base-T Ethernet interfaces including one 10/100/1000Base-T, as well as four asynchronous and two synchronous/asynchronous serial lines.
A bridgeless PMC carrier board is available to expand the 64bit PCIbus on P0 and increase the number of slots to as many as four.
The price of a convection-cooled 1GHz PowerEngine7 with a single PowerPC 750GX processor and 512Mbyte SDRAM starts at $3077 per unit in quantities of 100, with discounts for higher volume orders.
