Mezzanine card adds SCSI storage to VME board

A Thales Computers product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team May 20, 2005

Thales has added a powerful and reliable storage feature to its PowerNode3 computing node via a SCSI PCI Mezzanine Card.

Continuing its commitment to offer customers the latest technology and fullest array of VMEbus and embedded system solutions, Thales has added a powerful and reliable storage feature to its PowerNode3 computing node via a SCSI PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC).

An Ultra Wide SCSI PMC provides increased connectivity for the dual 1GHz PowerNode3 with 512Mbyte memory and 3264Mbyte Flash.

The SCSI PMC, with front and rear (P0) connection, provides a throughput of up to 40Mbyte/s.

This combination of the compute node and PMC turns the PowerNode3/SCSI bundle into a stand stand-alone high-end single-board computer (SBC).

"This is a key achievement for our PowerNode3 computing node".

"We strive to give our customers tested, quality products", Alain Albarello, General Manager of Thales Computers, commented.

"Customers will receive a single-slot solution with the PMC mounted and tested as a complete subsystem solution".

The PowerNode3 features dual and single Motorola PowerPC G4 7457 processors running at 1GHz, each equipped with 2Mbyte L3 cache and 2Mbyte private SRAM, linked via a 133MHz Avignon host bridge.

Up to 1Gbyte onboard SDRAM is accessible at the local bus speed of 133MHz.

The board provides twin PMC slots (one 64bit 66MHz and one 32bit 33/43MHz).

This SCSI PMC features both a front and rear (P0) connection, with the rear connection accommodating rugged and mil/aero project requirements.

For typical applications, the SCSI's maximum throughput of 40Mbyte/s is adequate.

Also, the SCSI's I/O compliments the wide I/O offering of the PowerNode3 (Gigabit Ethernet, serial lines etc).

The PowerNode3 SCSI PMC bundle comes ready to use with straight-forward installation utilising the Lynx 4.0 Software Suite.

This is a Fast Track product with a 2-week lead time at a starting price of $7910 for a single quantity.
