Thales has unveiled a powerful, ruggedised 6U CompactPCI blade server at Euronaval 2006, the world's leading international trade fair for naval defence Like its VME sister, the PENTXM2, unveiled earlier this year at the Eurosatory exhibition, the 6U CompactPCI cPENTXM2 uses the 1.67GHz dual-core Xeon, Intel's most advanced low-power IA-32 technology, combined with the Intel E7520 server class memory controller hub (MCH)

The cPENTXM2 is completely scalable and boasts up to 4Gbyte of DDR2-400 SDRAM with dual gigabit Ethernet ports on the back-plane compliant with switched back-plane recommendation PICMG 2.16/VITA31 and support PICMG 2.9/VITA 38 standard intelligent platform management interface (IPMI).

In addition, the cPENTXM2 provides two additional Gigabit Ethernet ports, making a total of four independent ports and two USB 2.0 ports on the font panel.

A SATA port, two USB 2.0 ports and a PCI-Express port are available on the back panel connector as PICMG 2.16 dual gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

"The cPENTXM2 represents a significant stride in the expansion of Thales' technological excellence in multiprocessing systems and Intel computing platforms to CompactPCI architectures", said Alain Albarello, General Manager of Thales' computer activities.

"In a new generation of embedded applications in which scalability, extensibility and reliability are as critical as performance, size, weight and power, the cPENTXM2, both in its stand-alone and complex cluster configurations, proves to be the ideal product for naval and aerospace programmes".

The cPENTXM2 runs Red Hat Linux and is available as a stand-alone board component or pre-integrated in large systems (PowerMP6) with full data transport and management software based on standards such as MPI and HTTP.

Pricing for the cPENTXM2 starts at $3950, subject to specifications.

A rugged conduction-cooled version of the cPENTXM2 is scheduled to be available during Q2 2007.

The cPENTXM2 is covered by Thales Computers' long term supply programme.

This offer guarantees defence customers a multiyear supply of the product beyond its active life, a unique offering for Intel processor-based products.
