Qubos of Dublin has begun volume shipments of a Medallion CPU module-powered handheld device.

Qubos of Dublin has begun volume shipments of a Medallion CPU module-powered handheld device Qubos is a technology driven company specialising in mobile data collection systems and associated tailored software solutions

The company chose Techsol's HY7201 Medallion to power its new WinCE based handheld device, the QuPort.

Techsol's Medallion is a 2in-square computer on module family.

Powered by an ARM-7 processor, the HY7201 module supports up to 32Mbyte of RAM and 32Mbyte of nonvolatile storage running at 60MHz.

The module supports two serial ports, IrDA, three USB host ports, SPI, I2C, several GPIO, LCD, VGA, keyboard, stereo audio and has a full address and 32bit databus available also.

The module is ideally suited for handheld, mobile, portable and embedded applications where power or size is at a premium and development time is limited.

Eddie Smith, Managing Director of Qubos stated: "We are pleased to be working with Techsol on our new QuPort handheld device.

Choosing to use Medallion modules has saved us many man-months of effort in hardware design effort.

In addition Techsol were able to provide us with exceptional support allowing us to concentrate on software and unique hardware requirements".

Although Techsol is well known for its expertise in Linux for ARM devices, this contract has proven that the Medallion computer on module is a perfect platform for customised WinCE hardware devices.

"We are pleased to see that Qubos has been able to quickly move from product concept through hardware and software design stages to the point now that they are beginning to ship product", said Brian Empey, President and CEO of Techsol.

"Qubos' project requirements were quite unique, however, their requirements for success were not.

They needed a partner that was willing to go the extra mile to ensure that they were able to successfully develop their concept.

Small companies like Qubos do not always have all the expertise in house that is needed to pull off a project like this.

However, with partners such as Techsol, they have much better chances to deliver products to market".
