Linux first for CPU module
As the second version of Techsol's HY7201 Medallion CPU module goes into production, the company is claiming a first for Linux.
This product integrates a variety of communications interfaces with interchangeable 32-bit Medallion RISC processor modules running the Linux operating system (OS).
In addition to FLASH with the Linux OS, Disk-On-Chip, and 32-megs SDRAM, it features:3 x RS-232 via D9 connectors.
One has an option to jumper power to pin #9 2 x Ethernet (10-BaseT) on RJ-45 connectors plus indicator LEDs 2 x USB 1.1 Host ports supporting high-speed transfers 1 x Centronics Parallel port for digital I/O (or logging to a printer) 1 x RS-485 on an RJ-12 connector with fused power options (5v or V-in) 1 x USB Device port supporting Linux Gadget and Windows RNDIS protocols 1 x user push-button under SW control 1 x VGA/SVGA on a DE-15 connector for displaying status/information By adding multiple high-efficiency switching power supplies and packaging it all in a rugged, all-aluminum enclosure, the result is a product that you can deploy in the communications room, on the production floor, or in fleet vehicles (power input is 8 to 30 VDC making it vehicle friendly).

All-in CPU speeds robot applications to market
At the 10th annual Trinity College Fire-Fighting Robot Contest, Smart Robots of Dalton, Massachusetts, demonstrated its latest educational/commercial robot platform.
This device is ideally suited for integrating a variety of legacy devices and connecting them to the Internet for purposes of remote data access, monitoring and control.
Also supported are BlueTooth and 802.11b via USB dongles, plus BusyBox utilities including a simple browser in addition to the Apache Web Browser and PHP.
Power consumption is < 2 watts at full operation, meaning no fans, vents or special consideration in where it is deployed.
Additional power management features let the application programmer control CPU speed; enable a low-power idle mode; put the Ethernet controllers into low-power mode; disable the RS-232 converters; disable the RS-485 transceiver; and even turn off all SW-controlled LEDs with a single GPIO bit.
It can run from a small solar panel! Techsol is seeking distributors and integrators.
We will change the color, labeling, ports to meet your needs.
The device with 32 megs DiskOnChip is ~US$495 at Q=1k units.
Techsol's Medallion system is unique in the embedded computer world.
Over time, the Medallion Singleboard computer product line will encompass many CPUs.
However, the pin-out and form-factor will remain the same.
There will be one Medallion module that is best matched to your application.
By designing with the Medallion system, you are effectively out-sourcing your CPU design and Linux porting with no up-front NRE fees! That lets your team concentrate on the hardware and software portions of your product that your customers see.
The result is that you can create a higher-quality product in a fraction of the time (and cost) of designing everything yourself from scratch! Plus, the interchangeable modules extend product life-cycle times.
