TV tuner expands flat panel controller
OEM display controller provides versatile connection between analogue video sources and high-definition flat panel displays.
Trident has extended its range of LCD interface solutions by introducing a new OEM display controller that provides versatile connection between analogue video sources and high-definition flat panel displays.
The new TVtoLCD modules represent the latest addition to Trident's portfolio of solutions from Kontron - a specialist in industrial flat panel solutions.
TVtoLCD modules are designed for applications where public displays are used to show advertising videos along with broadcast TV programming: for example in airports, railway stations and shopping centres.
Here, specially developed TV monitors rather than consumer devices are used to fulfil housing, viewing angle and temperature requirements.
This latest module also allows OEMs to meet increasing demand for higher resolutions, such as full HDTV (1920 x 1080 pixel).
Now available from Trident, the TVtoLCD module is a TV tuner expansion board for the CRTtoLCD-7 multimedia flat panel controller - flagship of the new aFlat series from Kontron.
This multifunctional scaler board combination converts signals from sources such as analogue RGB, DVI, and Pal/Secam/NTSC video to S-Video or composite video.
Optional analogue component video (YPbPr) is available for TFT-compatible signals such as TTL or LVDS.
The signal is scaled to the physical resolution of the panel as needed, with resolutions up to WUXGA (including full HD) supported.
analogue Pal/Secam/NTSC signals can be processed via a standard cable connection whilst separate loudspeakers can also be attached to play sound from the integrated 10W class D stereo amplifier.
Also built into the module are an FM radio tuner and an infrared receiver for standard RC5 code-compatible remote controls.
The flat panel controller and TVtoLCD expansion are connected via a board-to-board feature connector.
Display quality - especially for rapidly-moving images - is enhanced by state-of-the-art features including motion adaptive de-interlacing using advanced technology from Faroudja.
There is also an integrated PIP (picture-in-picture) function and a screensaver to help prevent burn-in effects and image sticking in TFTs.
Adjustment and settings are available through the module's on-screen display keypad, simplifying changes to convertor board parameters and control of the TV tuner and amplifier.
Alternatively, a serial interface allows convenient OSD configuration using a Windows PC.
Special "panel files" are used to store individual settings for different screens, ensuring optimal display for a variety of applications.
Moreover, individual function adjustments can be made quickly and easily using the recently developed Configuration Workbench software along with a high-performance scripting language.
As well as the component input option, Trident is also offering a pure audio module (SoundtoLCD) for use with all CRTtoLCD-7 versions.
Trident can provide a complete range of kits supporting panel sizes from 6.5 to 32in (VGA-UXGA resolutions) based on the Kontron range of interface cards.
