Precision instrument specialist H Tinsley is celebrating 100 years of business.
Founded by Henry Tinsley in 1904 the company started making what at the time were state-of-the-art scientific instruments such as resistance boxes and galvanometers, soon adding potentiometers and bridges to its range.
Today the vast majority of the company's products still relate to high-precision electrical measurement, and about 70% of its business is now overseas, products being sold worldwide through a network of over 40 agents.
The company's range now also includes coil and transformer testing equipment, precision thermometry, elevator overload devices, flour colour graders and, more recently, submarine cable test equipment.
Growth in Internet and telecommunications use has created a demand for uninterrupted and fault free transmission and Tinsley instruments play a vital part in achieving this.
From the start Tinsley worked closely with the National Physical Laboratory and continues to produce instruments based on NPL designs to this day.
Following a history of precision instrumentation expertise Tinsley joined the British Calibration Service (BCS) almost 30 years ago and now operates a United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) laboratory for the calibration of its products.
The next 100 years is impossible to predict but Tinsley, now part of Hartest Holdings, intends to continue to design and produce quality precision instrumentation for future demands - whatever they may be.
