GPS receiver gets the timing right
The Lassen PT module is a new-generation ultra-low-power mini GPS receiver that integrates a powerful and proven architecture to generate a 1pps timing pulse synchronised to UTC within 40ns.
The Lassen PT module is a new-generation ultra-low-power mini GPS receiver that integrates a powerful and proven architecture to generate a 1pps timing pulse synchronised to UTC within 40ns, and outputs a time tag for each pulse for static timing and synchronisation applications.
Precision timing and synchronisation is vital to today's data networks and wireless infrastructure for the efficient flow control of network information data to maximise the use of bandwidth.
The Lassen PT is suitable for the control of utility management systems, transportation systems and to provide a time tag for synchronisation of financial and data networks.
Trimble's mini Lassen PT module offers major advancements in performance, cost, power consumption and size, enabling system integrators to add precise GPS Time synchronised to UTC, to many products where accuracy, cost or size and ongoing support and component supply has become a limitation.
The Lassen PT incorporates Trimble's FirstGPS architecture, along with a powerful microprocessor in a miniature form factor creating a state of the art complete timing solution.
The module offers onboard storage in Flash memory for complete processing capability.
The module's tiny form factor (26 x 26 x 6.4mm) includes a metal shield with four solder tabs, to aid mounting and handling.
The Lassen PT requires an active 3.3V DC GPS antenna and power consumption is 100mW (PT module only) and current draw is 30mA.
The timing software features of the Lassen PT include: automatic self-survey to ensure accurate reference position for improved timing accuracy; the over-determined clock mode, single satellite mode, TRAIM and cable delay compensation.
The PT software is designed specifically for timing applications to provide a very precise solution with remote monitoring, control and automation; and other applications.
The modular design also allows for reduced integration time and low implementation risk with a calculated MTBF of 521,012h (almost 60 years continuous operation).
The Lassen PT GPS module is now available in volume quantities, together with a developer's starter kit and matched antennas from Q4 2003, through Trimble's worldwide sales organisations and local distribution partners.
