Torex Semiconductor has unveiled three new series of high-frequency crystal oscillators, the XC2163, XC2164 and XC2173, designed to boost the frequencies of cheaper crystal oscillators to a maximum of 125MHz This provides an alternative economical solution to a wide range of clock applications in portable communications and computing equipment

The XC2163 and XC2164 are CMOS low power, tristate-output ICs comprising a built-in crystal oscillator and a divider circuit in a compact mini-mold SOT-26 package.

The XC2163 has a standard oscillation frequency range of 20 to 125MHz, but it can also be used in buffer applications up to 160MHz.

The range of the XC2164 is a wider 4 to 125MHz.

The XC2164 is also available in die (chip) form for space critical applications.

For both devices, output is selectable from f0/1, f0/2, f0/4 and f0/8.

With oscillation capacitors and a feedback resistor built-in, it is possible to configure a stable third overtone oscillator using only a single external crystal oscillator.

Both devices are also available as external oscillation capacitor and feedback resistor versions, which make oscillation frequency control possible.

Also, packaged in a space-saving SOT-26 package, the XC2173 series additionally features a built-in clock multiplier PLL circuit with an operating oscillation frequency range of 10 to 25MHz.

As well as offering divider ratios of f0/2, f0/4 and f0/8, the connection of an external clock also gives designers multiplier ratios of fx5, fx6, fx7 and fx8.

Operating voltage is from 3.3 to 5.0V +/-10%.

In stand-by mode through the CE pin power consumption is reduced to a minimum of 1mA.

Continuous total power dissipation is 250mW.

This rugged series of oscillators is designed to operate over a temperature range of -30 to +80C.
