Step-up convertors raise voltages efficiently
The XC9128/29 series from Torex deliver efficiencies up to 93% over the entire load range, and can supply 500mA to a 3.3V load from a 1.8V battery supply.
Frugal detectors are accurate about voltage
Compact voltage detectors are well suited for monitoring battery, power-supply and regulated system voltages.
Gareth Henson, who was previously sales and marketing manager for Torex Semiconductor's European business, becomes managing director of Torex Semiconductor Europe.
"For the initial phase of establishing the business in Europe, the original operation was essentially a sales and marketing satellite of the parent company in Japan", said Henson.
"The vast majority of technical support, supply logistics and aftersales were all serviced from Japan.

Now we have moved into the next phase we have formerly set up a separate European trading company, Torex Semiconductor Europe, which will henceforth be directly responsible for all technical support and logistics issues for European customers".
Looking after product issues for Torex Semiconductor Europe is Andy Scott who becomes product marketing manager.
Scott has returned to the UK having spent the previous four years with Torex in Japan.
For the past two years Andy has been the European operation's primary contact with the Kyoto office handling all technical and logistical issues and effectively co-ordinating all European sales activities with the Japanese parent.
In his new role Andy will be responsible for both product marketing and technical support.
"Moving the technical support closer to the customer brings benefits to everyone", said Scott.
"Being able to talk to customers face-to-face gives us a better understanding of what they are trying to achieve and how we can best help them reach their goals.
It also improves our responsiveness.
We still rely heavily on the vast amount of expertise that exists within our Japanese parent, and we have very strong links with the engineers there, but a local technical capability is essential in further developing our European business.
By the end of the year we are hoping to bring on-board several applications engineers whose remit will be to provide a high level of technical assistance to customers throughout the European market".
The expansion of the European operation coincides with the news that Torex Semiconductor's new 6in wafer fab is now on stream.
This means that the company now has a 44,000 wafer per month production capability, representing a 14% increase in capacity.
"The new fab and extra capacity ensures that the increasing demand for Torex Semiconductor's power management ICs in Europe and the rest of the world is met", said Henson.
"As market demand picks up we will have the means to service it".
