LDOs save power in many ways
LDO regulators are compatible with low-ESR ceramic capacitors, which give added output stability, and include built-in overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown circuits.
Scott joined Torex Semiconductor in 1997, initially working in the company's fabs in Japan before moving to the Kyoto office.
For the past two years he has been the European operation's primary contact within the Kyoto office handling all technical and logistical issues and effectively co-ordinating all European sales activities with the Japanese parent.
His new role within Torex Semiconductor Europe combines overseeing product marketing with the introduction of a local technical support capability for Europe.
Until recently the European operation has essentially been a sales and marketing satellite of the parent company in Japan with the vast majority of technical support, supply logistics and aftersales being provided by Kyoto.
Following the setting up of a separate European trading company, Torex Semiconductor Europe Ltd, all technical support and logistics issues for European customers will now be handled from Loughborough in the UK.
"Moving the technical support closer to the customer brings benefits to everyone", said Scott.
"Being able to talk to customers face-to-face gives us a better understanding of what they are trying to achieve and how we can best help them reach their goals.
It also improves our responsiveness.
We still rely heavily on the vast amount of expertise that exists within our Japanese parent, and we have very strong links with the engineers there, but a local technical capability is essential in further developing our European business.
By the end of the year we are hoping to bring onboard several applications engineers whose remit will be to provide a high level of technical assistance to customers throughout the European market".
