Charge pump voltage inverter slims to chip scale
The Torex Semiconductor XC6351A series is the very latest in charge pump voltage inverter design, providing high efficiency, low power consumption and stable output in an ultra slim package.
The new XC6351A series from Torex Semiconductor is the very latest in charge pump voltage inverter design, providing high efficiency (typically 90%), very low power consumption (typically 100uA) and stable output in an ultra slim (0.65mm) chip scale USP-6B package.
One of the challenges facing designers of battery powered handheld equipment today is increasing the length of battery operating time without taking up too much valuable board space.
Compact charge pump inverters are ideal for RF and miniature LCD applications in battery powered equipment and the XC6351A offers possibly the best high density mounting solution of all.
With Torex's new USP-6B chip scale package, designers only have to think about taking up 2.0 x 1.8mm of board space.
The USP-6B is also ultra slim, measuring only 0.65mm in height.
Aimed at low output current applications, less than 10mA, the charge pump voltage inverter undertakes positive-to-negative conversion over a range of inputs between 1.2 and 5.0V, changing positive 3V in, for example, to negative -3V out.
Requiring only two external, low cost ceramic capacitors, the XC6351A employs four built-in mosfets to produce highly accurate negative voltages that can be used to provide the bias on LCDs or an op amp's negative rail, to give but two examples.
Oscillator switching frequency is 120 or 35kHz.
A low power consumption of typically 100uA is further reduced to 2.0uA (max) in standby mode.
The XC6351A's CE (chip enable) function allows the inverter to be completely shut down providing a further reduction in total power consumption for applications using the device.
The XC6351A series is ideal for high-density mounting and is available in a mini-moulded SOT-26 package as well as the ultra-small USP-6B chip scale package.
Operating temperature range is -30 to +80C.
