Torex Semiconductor has posted a significant boost in second-quarter sales - up 60% over the same period in 2001.

Tom Fujisaka, President of Torex Semiconductor, commented: "This upturn can be attributed mainly to increased sales of Torex's power management ICs for Bluetooth module, modem card, mobile phone CDR/RW and DVD applications.

On the back of this upturn and supported by our excellent June figures, I expect Torex to increase global sales by 50% this year".

One of the main reasons for Torex's optimism is the success of its XC6203 CMOS LDO voltage regulator series which, because of its large current capability (300-600mA), is being designed into a large number of CDR/RW and DVD applications.

The success of Torex's low noise, fast speed XC6204 and XC6209 CMOS LDO series is another reason.

These devices, backed by glowing performance reports from a variety of application areas, have been successfully approved for use in mobile phone, Bluetooth module and cordless phone designs.

"Sales are expected to strengthen as the year progresses.

We have also been doing some design-in work to gain an opening for our ICs in the growing Chinese mobile phone market.

Orders have just started to come in and we believe this business will really take off later this year", added Fujisaka.
