The XC6206 is a new series of positive voltage regulators that Torex Semiconductor reckons provides an ideal power management solution for handheld battery-powered applications such as cameras, mobile phones and portable games.

The XC6206 combines a current limiter circuit, driver transistor, precision reference voltage and an error correction circuit, in a single ultra small space-saving package.

Boasting a high precision voltage output and extremely low power consumption (typically 1.0uA), it gives designers the combination of large output currents with very low dropout voltage.

Manufactured using the very latest CMOS techniques, the XC6206 output voltage can be internally set by laser trimming, with voltage selectable in 0.1V increments within a range of 1.2 to 5.0V.

For a 5.0V device the output current is more than 250mA.

At 100mA, dropout voltage is typically 160mV and is still only 400mV when the output current rises to 200mA.

Input voltage is 1.8 to 6V.

The device's high accuracy of +/-2% makes it an ideal reference voltage source.

The XC6206 is fully stable with low ESR ceramic capacitors on the output bringing significant cost savings over competitive devices which require more expensive tantalum capacitors on the output to maintain stability.

The XC6206 is able to maintain its stability even during load fluctuations due to its extremely fast load and line transient response.

The voltage regulator's current limiter foldback circuit provides short circuit protection for the output current limiter and the output pin.

Low power consumption is essential in battery-powered equipment and at 1.0uA the XC6206 series provides one of the industry's lowest.

The new LDO voltage regulator is available in a choice of ultra-small SOT-23 (250mW) or SOT-89 (500mW) package and features an operating temperature range of -40 to +85C.
