Convertors switch at up to 1.2MHz
The XC9206, XC9207 and XC9208 are three new series of nonsynchronous step-down DC/DC convertors.
The XC9206, XC9207 and XC9208 are three new series of nonsynchronous step-down DC/DC convertors from Torex Semiconductor Featuring a high switching frequency up to 1.2MHz and a built-in 0.4ohm P-channel driver transistor, the new convertors enable a high efficiency, stable power supply with an output current of 500mA to be configured using only a coil, a diode and two small capacitors connected externally

LDOs save power in many ways
LDO regulators are compatible with low-ESR ceramic capacitors, which give added output stability, and include built-in overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown circuits.
Supplied in a compact SOT-23-5 package, the new devices employ the very latest current/voltage multiple feedback technique allowing ceramic capacitors, rather than expensive tantalum devices, to be used to stabilise their output.
Consequently the XC9206/07/08 are ideal for a wide range of handheld and portable applications from mobile phones and PDAs to notebook computers and games consoles.
Input voltage range is from 1.8 to 6.0V.
Output voltage is internally programmable from 0.9 to 4.0V in incremental steps of 0.1V.
Oscillation frequency is selectable from 300kHz, 600kHz and 1.2MHz, giving designers the freedom to select the optimum frequency for their applications.
The three devices provide a choice of different pulsewidth modulation (PWM) control The XC9206 offers a basic PWM operating mode.
Both the XC9207 and XC9208 have a PWM to pulse frequency modulation (PFM) switching facility, allowing them to operate at maximum efficiency, over a broad range of output loads.
PWM to PFM switching is factory set and automatic on the XC9207 while the innovative XC9208 uniquely boasts external control of PWM to PFM mode switching, allowing designers a high degree of flexibility in tailoring the convertor exactly to the needs of their application.
Other features include a 'softstart' offering protection against inrush currents when power is switched on and voltage overshoot.
On standby all circuits are shutdown to reduce current consumption to less than 0.5mA.
With the built-in under voltage lock out (UVLO) function, the internal P-channel driver transistor is forced off when input voltage becomes 1.6V or lower.
