LDOs produce higher currents
Torex Semiconductor Europe has released new high-current versions of its popular XC6204/6209 ranges of high-speed low drop out (LDO) voltage regulators.
Torex Semiconductor Europe has released new high-current versions of its popular XC6204/6209 ranges of high-speed low drop out (LDO) voltage regulators.
Maximum output current has been raised to a highly competitive 300mA, against 150mA previously available.
This high output current together with both families' low output noise, high ripple rejection, low drop out, ultra-fast turn-on times and the availability of ultra-compact chip scale USP-6B packaging make them ideal for a host of applications including the latest generation of Bluetooth-capable mobile phones.
To attain excellent output noise figures, most high-speed voltage regulators available today require the addition of an external bypass capacitor.
This is unnecessary with the XC6204 and XC6209 series, which have output noise ratings of only 30mV, RMS making them particularly suited to low noise RF applications.
The devices combine a voltage reference, error amplifier, current limiter, phase compensation circuit and a driver transistor in a single compact package.
The XC6204 and XC6209 series have an output voltage range of 1.8 to 6.0V and 0.9 to 6.0V, respectively, selectable in 50mV increments.
Both series have a very low dropout voltage of 200mV at 100mA and a high ripple rejection of 70dB (10kHz).
The XC6204 and XC6209 are also ideal reference voltage sources, providing highly accurate output of +/-2%.
They are fully stable with low-ESR ceramic capacitors on the output bringing significant cost savings over competitive devices which require more expensive tantalum capacitors to maintain stability.
The new regulators are able to maintain their stability even during load fluctuations due to their extremely fast load and line transient response.
Power consumption is very low: 25mA for the XC6209, 70mA in the case of the XC6204.
The devices' CE function enables the output to be turned off allowing a further reduction in power consumption.
Standby current is typically less than 0.1mA.
The XC6204 and XC6209 are available either in a SOT-25-5, SOT-89-5 or chip scale 2.0 x 1.8mm USP-6B package.
Both devices operate over a wide -40 to +85C temperature range.
