Super performance for LDOs
The XC6402 series of 'super' low dropout (LDO) voltage regulators is claimed to offer the lowest dropout and operating input voltages in the marketplace.
Extending battery life in handheld and portable equipment such as 3G phones, PDAs and digital video cameras, is a major challenge for designers.
To help them extract the maximum power available, Torex Semiconductor has released the XC6402 series of 'super' low dropout (LDO) voltage regulators, offering the lowest dropout and operating input voltages in the marketplace.
Moreover, the new devices provide low power consumption in standby mode, the widest choice of output voltage values compared to competing devices and exceptionally high current outputs.
Dropout voltage is an exceptional 50mV at 100mA and power consumption is typically just 40mA, both assisting the designer in extending battery life.
Input operating voltage range is from 6.0V down to a very low 1.5V.
Output voltage is selectable from 0.8 to 5.0V in 0.1V incremental steps, which combined with the special option of a 2.85V output, provide a total of 44 output voltage options.
Maximum output current is more than 700mA with an 800mA limit.
These highly innovative devices not only provide regulated low-noise outputs but can also be configured to monitor various parts of the circuit including the output, similar to a power-OK function, and the input, ie a battery level check.
Ripple rejection is 60dB at 1kHz.
In addition to the LDO and voltage monitor they incorporate a voltage reference, an error amplifier, a current limiter and a phase compensation circuit plus a driver transistor all in a single chip.
The series is compatible with low ESR ceramic capacitors that give added output stability.
This stability is maintained even during load fluctuations due to the devices' excellent transient response.
The XC6402 range is very versatile and designers can select active high or active low for the EN logic, with or without a built-in pull down resistor.
On-chip voltage monitor output logic can monitor high or low voltage outputs and be set to monitor VIN or VOUT.
The devices' EN function allows the voltage regulator only to be switched on or off while the rest of the circuit remains on.
A version with a delay condenser connection in place of the EN connection enables the customer to set up an external delay time.
Packaging options for the XC6402 series comprises SOT-25, SOT-89-5 and USP-6B.
Operational temperature range is -40 to +85C.
