Torex Semiconductor Europe has added two new members to its XC64xx family of highly innovative power ICs that integrate an LDO voltage regulator and reset in a single chip.

The XC6413 and XC6414 provide exceptionally high output currents, low power consumption in standby mode and, compared with competing devices, the widest choice of output voltage values.

The new devices are aimed at helping designers extend battery life in handheld and portable equipment applications.

Both are ideal for mobile phone and video camera designs, and whereas the XC6413's forte is PDAs and portable games, the XC6414 strengths lie in portable equipment designs that employ hard-disk drives, DVDs or CD ROMs.

Whereas other members of the family accept input voltages up to 6.0V, the two new arrivals have an extended input voltage range of 2.0 to 10.0V.

Regulator output voltage is selectable from 0.9 to 5.5V in 0.1V incremental steps.

Voltage detect range is from 0.9 to 6.0V.

Maximum output current is more than 300mA for the XC6413 and over 500mA for the XC6414.

Dropout voltage is 200mV at 100mA and typical current consumption is just 35uA.

These highly innovative devices not only provide regulated low-noise outputs but can also be configured to monitor various parts of the circuit including the output, similar to a power-OK function, and the input, ie a battery level check.

Ripple rejection is 65dB at 10kHz.

In addition to the LDO and voltage monitor they incorporate a voltage reference, an error amplifier, a current limiter and a phase compensation circuit plus a driver transistor all in a single chip.

The series is compatible with low ESR ceramic capacitors that give added output stability.

This stability is maintained even during load fluctuations due to the devices' excellent transient response.

The XC6413 and XC6414 are very versatile and designers can select active high or active low for the enable logic, with or without a built-in pull down resistor.

On-chip voltage monitor output logic can monitor high or low voltage outputs and be set to monitor the input or output.

The devices' enable function allows the voltage regulator only to be switched on or off while the rest of the circuit remains on.

A version with a delay condenser connection in place of the enable connection enables the customer to set up an external delay time.

The XC6413 and XC6414 are available in SOT-25, SOT-89-5 and ultracompact USP-6B packages.

Operational temperature range is -40 to +85C.
