The XB1117 is a new series of voltage regulators aimed at meeting the increasing demands for low voltage stable power supplies.

The XB1117 is a new series of voltage regulators aimed at meeting the increasing demands for low voltage stable power supplies Pressure to reduce power and voltage on circuit boards is a result of the desire to increase battery life in handheld applications and general industry pressure to reduce power consumption while increasing performance

The XB1117 series is a 1A low dropout positive voltage regulator.

It is available with 2.5, 3.3 and 5.0V fixed outputs or with an adjustable output voltage set by external resistors.

The series features a typical dropout voltage of 1.2V and can produce 1A output current at this dropout voltage.

The 5.0V output regulator has a maximum input voltage of 7V whereas the 2.5 and 3.3V output regulators handle maximum inputs of 5V.

The regulators operate by comparing the output voltage to an internal reference voltage of 1.25V.

With the adjustable output regulator, external resistors provide a minimum load current of 10mA and through variation in the resistance values, output voltage is controlled.

Stability is ensured through a tantalum or aluminium electrolytic capacitor.

The XB1117 series has thermal protection which limits the temperature to 150C.

Current limit protection is also integrated, ensuring protection above 1.5A.

Devices are available in SOT223 packages.
