Higher output current for voltage regulator
Torex Semiconductor has introduced a new high precision positive voltage regulator that combines large output current with a 'significantly' small dropout voltage.
In control of step-down DC/DC conversion
The new XC9201/02 is Torex Semiconductor's third-generation of DC/DC convertor controller.
In PS mode, the new regulators draw a typical quiescent current of just 4.5uA, providing valuable power savings that can, for example, help to extend the operating period per charge of battery-powered equipment such as mobile phones, digital cameras and PDAs.
Switching between PS mode and the normal high speed (HS) operating mode is fast and smooth, with minimal disturbance to the output voltage.
For all package types except SSOT-24, the GO function can also be disabled, allowing XC6217 regulators to operate as standard HS LDO devices.
This eliminates the need for users to order and stock different parts for GO and non-GO applications.
Their exceptionally low dropout voltage - typically 80mV with a 100mA load - further enhances the suitability of XC6217 regulators for battery-powered applications.
In addition, they offer high ripple rejection, low output noise, and a chip enable/disable facility with an auto-discharge feature which ensures that when the chip is disabled, the output voltage falls to zero almost instantly.
XC6217 series regulators from Torex are suitable for input voltages in the range 1.8 to 6.0V, and can deliver output voltages from 0.8 to 4.0V.
Output voltages are preset during manufacture, and can be specified in 50mV increments.
Maximum output current is 200mA over an operating temperature range of -40 to +85C, and fold-back current limiting is provided to protect the output in the event of overload or short circuit.
