Device provides an extra voltage regulator

A Torex Semiconductor product story

XC6415 devices are ideal for portable applications where space is at a premium such as mobile phones, portable games, cameras, portable AV equipment and PDAs.

Torex Semiconductor's dual-output XC6415 effectively gives design engineers an extra high-speed, low-noise LDO voltage regulator from the same tiny package.

The extremely dense power device is suitable for a range of battery-powered applications where small size and low power consumption are key design targets.

XC6415 devices are ideal for portable applications where space is at a premium such as mobile phones, portable games, cameras, portable AV equipment and PDAs.

For the tightest of spots, the USP-6C packaged dual output device measures 1.8 x 2.0 x 0.6mm.

The XC6415 voltage regulators consume just 28uA per channel, falling to less than 0.1uA in standby mode.

The output voltage for each regulator is factory set independently and selectable in 50mV increments within a range of 0.8 to 5.0V.

This feature enables the designer to achieve, for example, a 2.85 and 1.85V high-speed LDO solution in one tiny package.

The maximum output current for devices in the XC6415 range is typically 200mA per channel and the operating temperature range is from -40C up to a maximum +85C.

The EN function on the XC6415 allows the output of each regulator to be turned off independently.

In this state, the device turns on the internal switch located between the VOUT and the VSS pins.

This function enables the electric charge at the output capacitor (CL) to be discharged via the internal auto-discharge resistor and as a result the VOUT pin quickly returns to the VSS level.

The output stabilisation capacitor (CL) is compatible with low-ESR ceramic capacitors.

The high level of output stability is maintained even during frequent load fluctuations, due to the excellent transient response performance.

Because regulator 1 and 2 are completely isolated, crosstalk between each channel, which causes a problem during load fluctuations, can be greatly reduced, an important consideration when selecting a dual regulator.

All dual-output LDO voltage regulators within the new XC6415 series from Torex are suitable for use with input voltages ranging from 1.5 to 6.0V and all have an ultra-low dropout voltage of 90mV at 100mA.
