First 7.7-inch low-temp polysilicon LCD for eBooks
Toshiba today announced commercialisation of a 7.7-in low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD designed for mid-size electronic book devices incorporating Microsoft ClearType display technology
TX39/H is a 32bit RISC core based on the popular R3000A architecture designed by MIPS Technologies, Internally separate video and MCU bus architectures and a dual G-Bus controller deliver enhanced graphics and memory performance.
Toshiba's new processor was developed by its European LSI Design and Engineering Centre (ELDEC) located in Duesseldorf, Germany.
It is based on a 0.35-micron CMOS process and will significantly reduce the number of components and the development time needed to implement high-performance driver information systems.
The two Toshiba CAN (TXCAN) controller modules offer functionality that is fully compliant with the full CAN 2.0 B active standard, while the built-in graphic display controller features a 16bit colour palette delivering 256 colours.
A 3 x 6bit RGB DAC offers a 0-20mA current drive capability.
A parallel/sequential interface to digital LCD is also possible.
Supplied in a space-saving 208-pin QFP package, the new microprocessor features an onboard memory controller supporting SDRAM, SRAM, ROM, Page Mode ROM, EEPROM and Flash memory and a multichannel 32bit DMA controller.
Full CAN 2.0B functionality operating at speeds to 1Mbit/s ensures compatibility with both standard frame (11bit) and extended frame (29bit) identifiers and local RAM provides one 'receive only' and 15 'receive and transmit' mailboxes.
As both CAN and display controller activity requires no CPU interaction, system speed is maximised.
The MIPS-based TX39/H processor core has been designed to reduce embedded code size and execution time.
A five stage pipelined architecture and features such as the execution of MAC instructions in a single cycle ensure optimised performance.
Capricorn 2 is designed to work with voltages down to 3.3V and features a standby mode that further minimises power consumption.
The operating temperature for the new device is rated at -40 to +85C.
