A new family of devices, evaluation boards and ASIC IP will dramatically simplify the implementation of Secure Digital memory card host controllers.

A new family of devices, evaluation boards and ASIC intellectual property will dramatically simplify the implementation of Secure Digital (SD) memory card host controllers in applications ranging from mobile phones and PDAs to camcorders, games machines and in-car navigation systems The family of media card controller ICs offers a wide choice of system bus connectivity options including PCI, PC Card ATA, CompactFlash and SRAM-like standard memory interfaces

Designed for maximum configuration flexibility, each device combines the bus and SD memory card interfaces with support for one or more additional media including SmartMedia) and SDIO cards.

There are six devices in the SD card host controller family.

For PCIbus interfaces the TC6371AF provides both SD memory card and SmartMedia support.

For PC Card ATA and standard memory interfaces respectively the TC6374AF and TC6384AF both support the SD Card and SmartMedia interfaces.

The TC6377AF is a secure version of the srtandard memory interface device that features hardwired, C2-level security.

CompactFlash and standard memory interfaces are supported by the TC6380AF, which offers SD memory card, SDIO card and SmartMedia support, while the TC6387XB offers SD memory card and SDIO card support in smaller FBGA package.

Designed to minimise PCB space, the new devices are supplied in package sizes and styles ranging from 7 x 7mm 64-pin FBGA to 14 x 14mm 128-pin LQFPs.

Each device can be supplied with a dedicated evaluation board that will simply application design and prototyping in a variety of operating system environments.

For embedded designs Toshiba has also developed SD card controller IP that supports all SD and security commands and that will simplify the development of ASIC-based controller designs.
