RISC processors to gain IDE and RTOS support

The move creates the framework for the two companies to work more closely and offer embedded system engineers leading development tools and real-time operating systems (RTOS) that simplify and speed the implementation of applications based on Toshiba's complete TX family of MIPS-based RISC processors.

The strengthened partnership provides developers of embedded systems based on Toshiba's TX RISC family full access to all of the tools and real-time operating systems available from Green Hills Software, including the Multi integrated development environment (IDE) and compilers that are optimised for TX19, TX39 and TX49 RISC processors.

In addition, Green Hills Software's Integrity fault-tolerant RTOS and the ultra small ThreadX RTOS are available for Toshiba's TX39 processor.

As a result, developers enjoy the rapid design and development of high-availability, high-performance embedded systems based on the TX family.

Toshiba's TX family of 32 and 64bit MIPS-based processors are designed for embedded solutions in high-performance applications such as communications systems, digital consumer equipment and automotive electronics.

The TX19A and TX39 32bit processors, and the 64bit TX49 devices are upward compatible with MIPS32 and MIPS16e architectures and the corresponding MIPS I and MIPS III instruction sets.

The Green Hills Software Multi IDE features a Windows-orientated editor, source-level debugger, graphical program builder, run-time error checker, version control system, performance profiler, optimising profiler and real-time RTOS EventAnalyzer.

Tightly integrated with Multi IDE, Integrity is a high-availability fault-tolerant RTOS that employs a pre-emptive, real-time, priority-based multi-tasking scheduler optimised for deterministic response.

As well as advanced memory protection and dynamic download capabilities, Integrity also offers task- and system-level debug functionality and extensive embedded Internet and telephony protocol support.

The ThreadX RTOS is optimised for applications that demand minimum footprint, maximum speed and lowest cost.

Combining a picokernel design with fast timers and a high-speed pre-emption-threshold mechanism, ThreadX features a context switching time of less than 2us on a 40MHz processor.

The ThreadX picokernel is also memory stingy, requiring just 5Kbyte for a minimum footprint.
