LCDs deliver high brightness with wide angles
Two new wide-viewing-angle high-brightness active matrix TFT LCDs have been developed by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Company.
Two new wide-viewing-angle high-brightness active matrix TFT LCDs have been developed by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Company.
The 12.1in LTD121GA0S is one of the first XGA (1024 x 768) modules of this size for industrial applications.
The compact LTD104C11S VGA (640 x 480) offers the smallest outline dimensions available in the market for a 10.4in LCD module for industrial applications.
Both LCDs are targeted at applications such as factory automation, test and measurement, diagnostic equipment, amusement/entertainment systems, kiosks, medical equipment, and point-of-sale displays.
The 10.4in LTD104C11S features a high luminance of 400cd/m2 with a very high contrast ratio of 500:1 (typical).
This high brightness and contrast, combined with a wide viewing angle of 120 degrees in the vertical direction and 140 degrees in the horizontal direction, enables excellent front-of-screen performance and crisp, clear image quality from all directions.
To address industrial designers' needs for compact solutions, the outline dimensions of 238.5 x 177.5 x 11.5mm are the smallest in the industry for a 10.4in LCD module for industrial applications.
The 12.1in LTD121GA0S also provides excellent image quality with luminance of 350cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 250:1 (typical).
As one of the smallest XGA modules on the market for industrial applications, the display is targeted for high-end 12.1in applications that require higher resolution and brightness or for new XGA applications where a 15in module may be too large.
The display features a viewing angle of 100 degrees in the vertical direction and 120 degrees in the horizontal direction to provide very good image quality.
This LCD features compact outline dimensions of 278.3 x 209.0 x 11.5mm and is mechanically compatible with TMD's existing 12.1in SVGA displays (the LTM12C289 250cd/m2 and LTM12C285 500cd/m2 modules) for simplified system design.
The new displays feature reverse-scan capability, which enables customer-selectable display of either horizontal or vertical mirror images of the original image.
LCD displays typically feature a wider viewing angle from straight on or above, compared to the viewing angle from below.
The reverse-scan feature enables customers to select either a normal scan or reverse scan to obtain the best intended image, depending on whether the mounted display will typically be viewed from above or below.
Each of the new modules features a long-life, cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlighting system with two long-life replaceable lamps (mean half-brightness lifetime of 50kh) to ensure long-term reliability and minimal service and repair costs.
An extended operating temperature range from 0 to 60C for the LTD121GA0S and -10 to +65C for the LTD104C11S enables the LCD modules to be used in a wide range of applications and environments.
