Toshiba Electronics Europe has expanded its range of portable memory formats with two new families of branded USB memory products.

Toshiba Electronics Europe has expanded its range of portable memory formats with two new families of branded USB memory products.

Designed to address both standard and high-end user requirements, the new USB memory devices are available with medium- or high-speed operation, and have storage capacities from 256Mbyte to 1Gbyte.

Operating with medium data transfer speeds, the Toshiba "middle range family" of USB devices is designed to provide the memory storage and performance required by a variety of consumer, office and other common applications.

Toshiba's "high end family" delivers the speed of operation needed to address professional, industrial and other high-end requirements where speed of data storage and retrieval is a more critical consideration.

The two families have respective read speeds of up to 8 and 18Mbyte/s and respective write speeds of up to 4 and 12Mbyte/s.

Both USB products are launched with storage capacity options of 256Mbyte, 512Mbyte and 1Gbyte.

As with Toshiba's branded SD, miniSD and CompactFlash memory cards launched last year, the new USB memory devices are based on the company's proven, reliable and cost-effective NAND Flash memory technology.

All the devices are supplied in blister pack packaging that contains the device, an extension cable, a user manual and a lanyard.

The pack combines high visual impact for the modern retail environment with key information needed to make an informed purchasing decision.

Discussing the launch of the new USB memory devices, Sandrine Aubert, Product Marketing Engineer for Toshiba's Memory Department, comments: "We have had significant European success with the branded memory cards that we launched last year, and the next logical step was to enhance our portable memory storage portfolio with USB products".

"By offering a choice of standard and high-end devices with various capacities we are giving purchasers the option to choose the best speed, storage and price combination to meet their specific needs".

Aubert adds: "Because the new USB devices are based on Toshiba's proven NAND Flash semiconductor memory technology, users also have the peace of mind that they are purchasing a high quality, highly reliable product on which to store and transport their critical data".

The new Toshiba USB memory devices will be available from a wide variety of major retailers and specialist outlets in Q2 2005.
