Brighter claims for while LED range

Toshiba is commercialising a new range of white LEDs claimed to achieve the industry's highest level of luminosity.
The new devices can be used in a variety of domestic and commercial lighting applications that have conventionally used incandescent bulbs, as well as in designs that require high-brightness LCD backlighting.
The company is scheduled to ship samples of the new white LED beginning in July and start mass-production in October at an initial volume of 1 million units per month.
Toshiba's white LED, TL10W02-D, realises a luminosity of 60 lumens at 2W (500mA).
This high-level performance was achieved by improving mounting technology for the LED chip and use of a low thermal resistance package with improved heat release characteristics.
Toshiba also enhanced the efficiency of the optical retrieval ratio by optimising the design of the reflector.
Excellent heat release characteristics sustain high luminous linearity, even with a current as high as 700mA maximum.
Alongside the TL10W02-D, Toshiba has also announced the 30 lumen TL10W01-D, which is scheduled go into mass production in July at a projected volume of 1 million pieces per month.
Both new LEDs adopt a compact package.
