Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched a flash microcontroller specifically designed to meet the needs of modern home appliance applications including washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers.
First 7.7-inch low-temp polysilicon LCD for eBooks
Toshiba today announced commercialisation of a 7.7-in low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD designed for mid-size electronic book devices incorporating Microsoft ClearType display technology
The new product employs 0.18um process technology to mount the 900/H1 high-speed 32bit CPU core.
This core is optimised for low power consumption and high performance.
This product also employs an on-chip PLL circuit with an external maximum frequency of 10MHz, which enables the internal clock to operate at 60MHz, This is three times that of the original 900/H1 core, allowing the new device to realise a processing capacity of approximately 30MIPS and power consumption of approximately 60mW.
To take advantage of the accelerated CPU performance and allow the CPU to reach maximum processing capacity, the new processor employs memory interleaving and offers large on-chip 288Kbyte RAM capacity with low access time.
In addition to accelerating the CPU, the TMP92CZ26XBG can support a wide variety of audio or video codec and other applications that previous CISC microprocessors could not support.
Toshiba is also developing TTS (text to speech) technology for this new product.
Featuring built-in IP such as a 256-/4096-colour CSTN or TFT-ready LCD controller, a full-speed (12Mbit/s) USB controller, and SDRAM and NAND Flash memory controllers - including support for new multi-value NANF memory - this new product will be suitable for high-speed processing applications in mobile devices.
The new device also incorporates an on-chip 8Kbyte boot ROM, making it possible to boot from on-chip RAM and transfer data from a PC or other external device via USB or UART communications to the on-chip RAM.
An onboard SDR type SRAM controller supports program execution, data RAM, and LCD RAM, while an on-chip MAC circuit performs high-speed 64+ bit (32 x 32bit) processing.
The processor's integrated DMA controller is faster than uDMA alternatives used in existing products, allowing high-speed data transfer from external memory to on-chip RAM.
The TMP92CZ26XBG is fully compatible with Toshiba's TLCS-900 series of 16bit processors based on 900/L, 900/L1 and 900/H cores.
As with previous members of the TLCS-900 series, high code efficiency can be realised using Toshiba's own C compiler.
