Audio DSPs provide design flexibility
New system-on-chip audio DSPs combine MP3, WMA, ATRAC and AAC decoding capability with CD control and amplification functions.
Toshiba Electronics Europe has extended its family of system-on-chip (SoC) audio DSPs with two new devices that combine MP3, WMA, ATRAC and AAC decoding capability with CD control and amplification functions The new TC94A70FG is an SoC solution that provides all necessary CD and audio processing functionality - including 1Mbit of SRAM - in a single 100-pin QFP

First 7.7-inch low-temp polysilicon LCD for eBooks
Toshiba today announced commercialisation of a 7.7-in low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD designed for mid-size electronic book devices incorporating Microsoft ClearType display technology
The TC94A73MFG system-in-package (SiP), which will start volume production by March 2006, uses the same package to integrate the TC94A70FG along with DRAM for ESP (electronic shock protection).
Both variants are pin-compatible and have low standby currents (10uA maximum).
Toshiba's new devices will significantly simplify the implementation of home and vehicle audio systems by reducing component count and eliminating the overhead on system processors.
Using the devices, designers can quickly implement a wide variety of functions including CD-DA play mode (with CD-text), compressed audio playback, ISO9660 disk analysis and control, audio playback and CD-ROM modes for data transfer.
Digital filters, equalisation and dynamic range control, and sound field controls can also be provided without the need for additional components.
The audio decoding DSP functionality available from the new devices includes support for MP3, WMA, ATRAC3 Plus, ATRAC CD and AAC audio formats.
Dedicated CD functions include digital servo processor with integrated RF amplifier and a DAC.
All of the devices offer 4bit parallel interface and a four-line serial interface for direct connection to a microcontroller.
Serial, digital audio and analogue interfaces - including one I2S input, three I2S outputs and an SPDIF connection - provide design flexibility for audio input and output.
