High-performance 32bit microcontroller simplifies addition of USB and SD card connectivity to audio equipment such as car radios and a variety of other applications.

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has launched a high-performance, 32bit microcontroller that will simplify the addition of USB and SD card connectivity to audio equipment such as car radios and a variety of other applications requiring USB connectivity The TMP92FD28FG incorporates an onboard USB 2.0 controller, 512Kbyte of Flash memory, 32Kbyte of internal RAM and extensive serial connectivity options

As a result, the device provides a single-chip solution for both host processing and connectivity control in audio applications such as car radios and other high-performance designs where USB interfaces are an important requirement.

Operating at speeds up to 20MHz, the TMP92FD28FG is based on Toshiba's TLCS-900/H1 32bit CPU core, which combines RISC-level performance with the benefits of a CISC architecture.

The onboard USB 2.0 controller offers full-speed 12Mbit/s operation.

Additional connectivity includes a UART/SPI controller that supports SPI communication with SD and MMC memory cards, a high-speed serial interface offering speeds up to 10Mbit/s, I2C interfaces, and an IrDA version 1.0 interface.

In addition to its comprehensive onboard connectivity options, the TMP92FD28FG also features a memory controller and interrupt controller.

Timer functionality comprises a real time clock timer, a watchdog timer, an 8bit timer (six-channel) and a 16bit timer (two-channel).

The new microcontroller's TLCS-900/H1 core operates at up to 20MHz for minimum instruction execution times of 50ns and allows designers to expand external memory up to 16Mbyte of linear address space.

47 interrupts can be accommodated, while three halt modes and a "key on wakeup" facility to minimise power consumption during standby mode.

The TMP92FD28FG is available in a choice of two compact 100-pin QFP packages with respective dimensions of 14 x 14 and 14 x 20mm.

Operating voltage is from 3.0 to 3.6V for external I/O and 1.4 to 1.6V internally.
