High-efficiency white LED produces twice the brightness of previous devices in the same form factor.

Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched a high efficiency white LED that provides twice the brightness of previous devices in the same form factor Supplied in a standard, compact package, the new TLWK1100B LED delivers typical luminous intensity levels of 1500mcd from a drive current of only 20mA

The Toshiba TLWK1100B is supplied in a standard PLCC2 surface mount package which measures just 3.2 x 2.9 x 1.9mm.

Potential applications for the new device include panel indication, LCD backlighting and the replacement of incandescent lamps in certain lighting applications.

A robust design and an operating temperature range of -40 to +100C also make the TLWK1100B ideal for automotive lighting designs.

The new LED has employed a combination of a blue InGaN LED and yellow-emitting phosphor to provide the high brightness white light output.

The device offers efficient operation with maximum power dissipation of just 114mW, and typical forward voltage (VF) is 3.2V.
