Charon I is a tiny embedded Ethernet interface and device server that enables monitoring and control of a wide variety of devices via a local or wide area network (including the Internet).

Charon I is aimed at designers concerned with adding embedded network capabilities to their products.

Network protocols supported include TCP/IP, UDP/IP, SNMP, SMTP and HTTP.

The module provides a 10Base-T Ethernet interface, an RS232 port and eight TTL I/O lines.

Depending on the firmware loaded (by the user) Charon I can act as an Ethernet to RS232/485 convertor, an SNMP controller or a home web controller.

When used in conjunction the Ethernet to RS232/485 firmware, a virtual serial port (downloadable free) enables redirection of the PC application to the Charon I's serial port, via an Ethernet network.

Charon I is an economical solution for adding embedded Ethernet/Internet capability to any product.

A development kit is available for evaluation.
