New from TR Control Solutions is the Charon II embedded Ethernet module.

Charon II is an open source, low-cost embedded Ethernet module designed to enable designers to easily add Ethernet connectivity to existing products or to quickly produce a completely new Ethernet-enabled product.

Charon II is based upon the AVR Atmega 128 MCU and a free open-source RTOS and TCP/IP stack known as the Ethernut project.

By using either the freely available Gnu AVR C Compiler Collection for Linux and Windows, or the commercially supported ImageCraft AVR C Compiler for Windows, developers can create custom applications from the Ethernut source code.

The Ethernut licence provides royalty-free, commercial use of the source code, in both open and closed source projects.

A Charon II development kit is available which includes a Charon II module, a development board, cables, a variety of peripherals and a CD containing a user guide and the appropriate firmware to get started.
