Bonding heads speed soldering operations
A new family of air-actuated heads is specially designed to address pulsed heated hot bar reflow soldering applications.
A new family of air-actuated heads is specially designed to address pulsed heated hot bar reflow soldering applications such as flexible circuit to rigid PCB, edge connectors to PCB, and ribbon cables to PCB.
The range is also applicable for heat seal and ACF bonding applications used for connecting flexible circuits to LCDs.
The new range of reflow hot bar soldering and ACF bonding heads incorporates all the features necessary for bench and automated production.
Precision adjustment of thermode pressure enables the optimum thermal transfer of heat to the parts and guarantees the repeatability of the bonding process.
The unique design of the thermode mounting blocks on all modules delivers the fastest heating rates to the thermode in the shortest process times and is designed to dissipate the heat generated by extremely fast repetition rates making it ideal for both manual and automated process requirements.
All three reflow heads feature a built in coplanarity adjustment for easy alignment of the thermode to the parts to be soldered.
Consistent thermal transfer of heat to perform the soldering operation is the key to a repeatable process and therefore enables reliable and consistent results.
Additionally, the new range of bonding heads features a forced-air cooling unit that fires cooling air to the thermode and parts at the end of the heating period while maintaining pressure on the joint.
This helps prevent dry or fractured joints due to movement of the parts and cracking of the solder while cooling.
Specifically, the model 87SA/24 has a thermode mounting block that will accept thermodes up to 45mm long and 3mm wide and is ideal for the majority of small flex-to-PCB soldering operations.
The 84SA/24 has a higher force range and a thermode block that accepts thermodes up to 65mm long.
This head is ideal for medium-size applications such as edge connectors and ribbon cables.
The 180SA/24, which can accept thermodes up to 100mm wide and is able to deliver forces up to 45kg.
The 180SA/24 is more applicable for heat seal and large solder reflow applications where higher forces are required.
