New route for ATEX certification
TRL Compliance Services has been appointed by the UK Department of Trade and Industry as a Notified Body under the ATEX Directive.
The EMC Directive in transition
Steve Hayes, Director of TRL's EMC Division, looks at the implications for manufacturers of the latest EMC Directive (2004/108/EC).
"This joint initiative means that customers can call on the resources of 11 UK test locations which employ more than 150 skilled, experienced staff".
The Solutions Division covers areas including EMC, safety (electrical, explosive atmospheres (ATEX and DSEAR), Machinery Directive), environmental, telecomms, radio, military, aerospace, pressure equipment, medical, RoHS and WEEE.
If the company is not able to deliver specific test and assessment services from group companies, it will source the necessary capabilities externally.
Already the company has worked on projects including traffic monitoring systems, satellite communications, and industrial chemical factories.
Was continues: "This is a significant union of like minded companies that will provide an unrivalled test and certification service portfolio to the benefit of all of our clients".
"As an example, take TRL's recent appointment as a Notified Body under the Machinery Directive".
"There are several other companies that have this status, but very few in the UK and Europe are also experts in the related areas of EMC and safety, or can offer, for example, ATEX and DSEAR services".
