Linear and mechanical drives up profiling speeds
The strategic use of linear drive technology in a flatbed laser cutting machine has resulted in a much faster operation, bringing huge productivity increases.
The new flatbed laser cutting machine Trumpf Trumatic L3050 features the strategic use of linear drive technology.
As far as its speed and acceleration values are concerned, this machine is literally double as fast as comparable laser cutting centres, and brings its users huge productivity increases.
Cutting speed and machinable material thickness have both been sharply increased thanks to a laser power of 5kW.
This new CO2 laser cutting centre has increased productivity sharply, regardless of whether the sheet metal is thin or thick.
It is suitable for mild steel upto 25mm, stainless steel to 20mm and aluminium to 12mm.
It works according to the "flying optics" principle: all movement takes place in the tool itself, the laser cutting head, while the workpiece remains static.
This proven concept results in high dynamics and high processing speeds, regardless of workpiece weight.
In general, the lower the masses that require moving, the higher the machining speed attainable.
Minimising these "masses" while keeping the construction as rigid as possible was an important engineering objective behind the new L3050.
Consistent and intelligent lightweight design, in the form of multifunctional components and high-quality materials, finally made it viable to use high-dynamic drives on the Y and Z axes.
This design enables both axes to operate with linear direct drives.
In contrast, the long gantry X axis travels on both sides via a rack and pinion drive.
Despite the differing drive concepts, the traversing axes have the same speed at 200 m/min.
As a result they move simultaneously at around 300 m/min.
This combination of alternative drives, together with the lightweight design of the machine, has resulted in higher dynamics, higher speed and therefore higher productivity.
The price-performance ratio is also very favourable.
The available laser output is decisive as far as the productivity of a machine like this is concerned.
The Trumatic L3050 is equipped with Trumpf's new 5kW CO2 laser.
Together with its incredibly fast laser power control, the TLF 5000 not only masters the high-speed cutting of thin sheet but also thick steel without a problem.
It goes without saying that the high cutting quality is process-safe.
Contributing significantly toward this is the capacitive height regulation, which guarantees optimal cutting results in uneven sheets.
The newly-developed laser power control, which ensures constant and optimal cut quality at corners and small contours, is another important feature in this regard.
The Trumatic L3050 is not only suited to 2D laser cutting however.
It can be quickly refitted for the flexible machining of tubes and profiles.
Another plus point of the L3050 is that it comes as standard with an automatic pallet changer, enabling loading and unloading parallel to production.
Naturally all further proven components can be adapted for automation too - all the way to connection with a compact or system store for fully-automatic sheet metal fabrication.
