Two new industry-leading HDDs are optimised for mobile and multimedia applications.
Through the use of Femto sliders each drive delivers 500g shock resistance placing them among the most robust drives available on the market.
Furthermore, with a double increase in vibration resistance during operation from 1 to 2g, the drives are now able to truly outperform in demanding mobile environments.
In addition, advanced pulsewidth modulation controllers mean that both drives deliver 20% lower power consumption than current models.
Due to technical improvements on the head and platter, Toshiba has achieved yet another manufacturing benchmark in the 1.8in arena with an area density of 93.5Gbit per platter - the highest area density of any 1.8in HDD.
For discerning users, the use of advanced fluid dynamic bearing technology permits the noise level to be as low as 16dB during idle stage.
Toshiba's family of 1.8in hard disk drives have already become the storage device of choice for some of the hottest portable devices on the market.
The drives' combination of industry leading performance in light weight, small form factors has helped deliver unprecedented functionality to a wide variety of devices from MP3 players, handheld computers and ultraportable laptops.
This position was recently reinforced when the company celebrated reaching a production milestone of over seven million 1.8in drives since the form-factor launch in 2000.
The MK6006GAH and MK3006GAL drives will be available in Q4 2004 through Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division distributors and dealers or via the company's website.
