Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division (SDD) has named Tsoi Man Hei Ken from Japan and Marcel Oeltjendiers from Germany as the winners of its Hard Disk Drive Revolution design competition.
Tsoi Man Hei Ken won the university stream of the competition with his design Mr D Eater - a USB storage device designed for 15-30 year olds that offers the ability to transfer and share data between two devices without the need for a computer connection.
The winner of the design house stream was Marcel Oeltjendiers from Marblepeak Design with his Sound 4II device.
Sound 4II is a portable palm-sized audio player with integrated surround sound system that takes its inspiration from the ghetto blasters of the 1980s.
Launched in September 2005, the Hard Disk Drive Revolution Design Competition was created to promote the use of Toshiba's world record breaking 0.85in HDD in next generation mobile technology.
The judging panel meet in late February 2006 to consider each design based on its marketability, functionality, form/aesthetics and innovation in design.
The judging panel consisted of senior executives from leading consumer brands including Bose, Archos, Flybook and Freecom, design expert Chantal Mourinos and freelance designer Rainer Bohl.
