Disk drives are made for consumer electronics
High-capacity 1.8in hard disk drives allow designers to boost storage in mobile consumer electronics designs.
Two new 1.8in hard disk drives from Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division allow designers to boost storage in mobile consumer electronics designs.
The new 160Gbyte dual platter MK1626GCB and 80Gbyte single platter HDDs have been specifically design for use in highly portable, small form factor consumer electronics devices such as mp3 players and personal media players.
Featuring the CE-ATA interface, which is optimised for consumer electronics products, Toshiba's new 160Gbyte HDD drive builds on growing market demand for high-capacity lightweight next-generation mobile media devices.
Alongside the increase in capacity, both the 160 and 80Gbyte hard disk drives operate at only 3600rev/min offering improved power consumption compared with conventional HDDs.
This will help next generation mobile digital media devices deliver extended battery life - a high priority for consumers - as well as offering substantial storage for video, photo and audio applications.
"Consumption of mobile digital media is at an all time high and in turn is driving consumers towards high capacity mobile devices", explains Martin Larsson, General Manager, Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division.
"With our two new hard disk drives, we are offering consumer electronics designers the perfect medium to develop high performance products that offer the optimum combination of low power consumption and substantial storage in highly portable form factors".
