TTPCom hits type approval half-century
TTP Communications (TTPCom), today announced the 50th full type approval for its GSM technology, achieved by Quanta Computer, Taiwan's leading laptop manufacturer.
TTP Communications (TTPCom), today announced the 50th full type approval (FTA) for its GSM technology, achieved by Quanta Computer, Taiwan's leading laptop manufacturer.
The type approval is for the Aviso - a triband GPRS-enabled GSM handset that to be launched later this year.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Quanta - they have significant engineering expertise and with their current Beacon range of dual-band handsets they have developed experience of high volume handset production", said Tony Milbourn, Managing Director of TTPCom.
"In addition to being our fiftieth GSM FTA, this is also the first of many GPRS-enabled products from TTPCom customers.
We expect to see a rush of our customers coming to market with GPRS devices before the end of this year".
Michael Wang, Executive Vice President at Quanta commented: "We chose TTPCom's GSM/GPRS software because their development was significantly ahead of other offerings and enabled us to reach market within an aggressive timeframe.
The maturity of their platform has resulted in a smooth transition through the approval process and means that we are on target to start mass production this year".
He added, "With stable software and first class manufacturing facilities, we have every confidence that we will be able to establish as strong a position in the mobile device sector as we have in the world laptop market".
This 50th GSM type approval is especially significant as it includes the latest generation GSM baseband chipset, the AD20msp430, which has been codesigned by TTPCom and Analog Devices to implement GPRS.
TTPCom and ADI have been working together since 1993, and have codeveloped several generations of chipsets.
"Our relationship with ADI has been one of the longest standing partnerships between an IP vendor and a silicon manufacturer", said Milbourn.
"With the recent launch of a new chipset, and a track record of success over fifty type approvals, we fully expect our working relationship to continue and strengthen".
Christian Kermarrec, Vice President of Analog Devices, said: "It is particularly satisfying that the 50th type approval is the first for our GPRS development including both the AD20msp430 SoftFone baseband processor and the Othello direct-conversion radio.
This underscores the tremendous strength of our partnership and shows that together, ADI and TTPCom are setting the agenda for 2.5 and 3G technology".
