Research In Motion (RIM) is using TTPCom's GPRS protocol stack and related DSP code for its BlackBerry wireless email solution in Europe.

"We have been working with RIM, and with European network operators, for several months now to ensure that our software is fully tested and able to take full advantage of the GPRS networks", stated Tony Milbourn, Managing Director of TTPCom.

"The BlackBerry is a unique solution that is ideally placed to pioneer the use of GPRS technology within the business community because of its data centric focus".

BlackBerry is an always-on, complete, secure and integrated wireless email solution designed for mobile professionals.

Successful in North America, where it has over 12,000 corporate customers, and now available in the UK, it features a large screen, easy-to-use keyboard and embedded wireless modem.

It is designed as a total end-to-end solution, with customers receiving a complete package of easy-to-use wireless handheld, productive desktop utilities, innovative server software and nationwide airtime on a leading network in one completely integrated solution.

"TTPCom and RIM have been working together on the GPRS protocol stack technology required to bring the BlackBerry wireless handheld to Europe", said David Werezak, vice president marketing at Research In Motion.

"TTPCom technology has undoubtedly played a valuable role in this process".

GPRS technology cannot be implemented as a stand-alone module as it requires substantial reworking of current GSM technology.

TTPCom's leading position in the GSM market sector has enabled it to produce a more robust GPRS solution than would otherwise have been possible within a short timeframe and in January of this year TTPCom was the first independent supplier of software and chip designs to bring GPRS technology to market.
