New at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes is a range of GPRS handset and wireless module designs which provide the a fast time to market - from "tailored design" to volume manufacture.

Earlier this week at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, TTPCom launched InTouch, a range of GPRS handset and wireless module designs, which provide the a fast time to market - from "tailored design" to volume manufacture Using InTouch, an established brand such as a consumer electronics manufacturer, operator, or distributor can rapidly enter the wireless device market with their own highly differentiated product

As well as being competitively specified with the industry's latest technology, InTouch designs can provide innovative features to increase operator ARPU (average revenue per user) and provide the consumer with highly desirable products.

"The move to 2.5G and 3G technology provides a discontinuity in the wireless marketplace, creating opportunities for established brands to enter the market and to provide new value propositions to operators and users", said Peter Whale, InTouch Product Manager, TTPCom.

He continued, "With InTouch, TTPCom is providing a complete design and manufacturing capability, allowing our customers to provide differentiated own-brand products.

Each of the InTouch designs comes with full regulatory approval and can be manufactured in volume.

The bill of materials and feature set are very attractively positioned, and customers can add their own unique features and product styling".

Two InTouch designs are available at launch: a lifestyle, aspirational handset, targeted at the replacement/upgrade market, and a small form-factor GPRS module suitable for embedded applications.

The InTouch designs are based on TTPCom's world-leading GPRS technology, which is already shipping in a number of products worldwide.

Each of the InTouch designs is triband (900/1800/1900MHz) with GPRS Class 10, Class B or C compatibility and HR/FR/EFR Speech codecs.

SIM Toolkit Class 3, Release 99 is supported and the handset designs use a colour display and have an internal antenna as standard.

For the InTouch handset, the core product specification is enhanced by the addition of TTPCom's Wireless Game Engine (WGE), which has a safe download capability for secure over-the-air download of games into the handset.

WGE is a high performance, small memory footprint, execution environment for wireless games.

A standard application programming interface (API) is provided which opens up the feature set of the phone to the creativity of games developers, enabling them to create a new generation of wireless games which offer an exciting, rich experience to mobile users.

InTouch handsets also support all the contemporary industry requirements including WAP, EMS, MMS, J2ME (Java) and SyncML.

In line with the latest user expectations, 16-chord polyphonic music capability is included and a USB connection enables fast upgrades and synchronisation with personal computers.

The handset can be further augmented with options that include T9 text entry, voice recognition and an integral multimedia card (MMC) to facilitate data storage and future enhancements.

To support the full range of embedded products, including handsets, PDAs, mobile internet devices, and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications the InTouch GPRS wireless module has an extended AT command interface which allows complete control of the GSM/GPRS capabilities from a host.

Custom software can also be added to the standard module, increasing the flexibility and reducing the overall cost of embedded wireless applications.
