TTPCom and Synergenix Interactive today have signed an agreement that will lead to the convergence of their wireless gaming activities.
TTPCom licenses technology to many of the world's leading handset manufacturers including Siemens, Sharp, LG and Toshiba.
TTPCom has developed a wireless graphics engine (WGE) with exceptional graphics capabilities, speed and performance.
This technology features in the Innostream I-1000 phone which is distributed in China and other Asian markets.
Synergenix has developed Mophun, a wireless gaming platform, which is used in popular handsets including the Sony Ericsson T300, T310 and T610.
Mophun features a download facility, and has been adopted by more than 12 network operators in Europe and North America.
The combination of TTPCom's and Synergenix' technologies and expertise will lead to the development of a single standard for state-of-the-art wireless gaming in mass market mobile phones.
This standard will be complementary to Java, which is a broader, multipurpose applications technology that is being used increasingly in high-end mobile phones.
Gordon Aspin, Operations Director at TTPCom stated: "The wireless gaming market is extremely competitive and we believe that there is room for only one high performance gaming standard.
TTPCom and Synergenix, by working together, have the skills and connections to establish this standard.
The collaboration with Synergenix will immediately enable our handset customer base with the games download capabilities of Mophun and provide access to established relationships with Mophun-enabled network operators.
Our combined technology will also enable us to present a very strong offering to handset manufacturers and network operators, especially in China where there is huge potential to generate revenues from downloading wireless games and which is just starting to take off".
Per Osterberg, CEO of Synergenix said: "TTPCom work with over 40 handset manufacturers worldwide and have a particularly strong position in Asia.
Our tie-up will make a superior gaming experience available to this wide range of manufacturers".
He added, "there is tremendous synergy between our development teams - we have both focused our efforts on extracting the maximum gaming and graphics performance from mass market mobile phones.
We will continue to develop technology that delivers an exciting and rewarding gaming experience to the majority, without the need for additional processing hardware".
Both TTPCom and Synergenix have established strong relationships with games developers by offering a software development kit and comprehensive suite of applications programming interfaces (APIs), which facilitate the development of games.
These relationships have given rise to a portfolio of over 60 games which handset manufacturers can access immediately.
mophun's download capabilities enable users to download the latest titles over the air from the network operators' portals.
As part of the agreement TTPCom will take a minority stake in Synergenix.
