KTC Telecom gets InTouch with new designs

KTC Telecom Co of Korea is to develop a range of leading edge mobile phones based on TTPCom's InTouch handset designs.

KTC Telecom Co of Korea is to develop a range of leading edge mobile phones based on TTPCom's InTouch handset designs.

KTC is a leading contract equipment manufacturer of GSM, corded, cordless and DECT phones, which it produces on behalf of several leading Korean companies.

The deal provides KTC with a fast track to market with a range of products, which the company will be able to customise with their own "look and feel".

KTC's first product will be based on TTPCom's entry-level design targeted at emerging markets.

KTC will also develop a clamshell camera phone, based on TTPCom's ITH255 mobile phone design, which incorporates triband GPRS class 10 with embedded camera, WAP 2.0, MMS, 40-note polyphonic sound, a colour TFT screen and high quality games.

This product is scheduled for release in early 2004.

John Barber, Managing Director of TTPCom's Terminals Division stated: "The worldwide growth in the mobile phone market is attracting an increasing number of manufacturers and with the InTouch range of products we are offering them a fast track route into the market.

Since our acquisition of Mobisys in Korea in April of this year we have been able to offer our customers throughout Asia a dedicated level of technical support which speeds the whole integration process".

Ahn Myoung-Hoon, CEO of KTC stated: "We are pleased to sign this agreement with TTPCom who have a very strong reputation in Korea.

There is a significant market for GSM mobile phones and the move into manufacturing our own handsets is a natural evolution for KTC given our longstanding experience in the manufacture of desktop phones and related equipment".
