The Wind River PPMC8260 reference design supports designs using the Tundra PowerSpanTMII multiport PCIbus switch for PowerQUICC II microprocessor architectures.

The Wind River PPMC8260 reference design supports designs using the Tundra PowerSpanTMII multiport PCIbus switch for PowerQUICC II microprocessor architectures The reference board gives designers a complete platform to evaluate the Motorola PowerQUICC II integrated communications (MPC8260) processor, as well as the 64bit PCI interface provided by the Tundra PowerSpan II

As part of the Tundra Partner Programme, this reference design gives designers a fast, efficient means of shortening development cycles and bringing products to market quickly.

Design cycles, which are common in developing complex systems, can be reduced through the use of a reference design, while reducing the risk that accompanies any new system design.

"Reference designs and hardware-assisted tools like visionICE II and visionWare have become an essential cost-savings tool in prototyping and they also enable customers to leverage faster-to-market competitive advantages.

visionICE II and visionWare were instrumental in the design validation for both our PowerSpan II and PowerPro products", said Jim Parisien, Manager of the Tundra Partner Programme.

"Our long-standing partnership with Wind River gives customers the additional assurance that they are working with a company known for its leadership as well as RTOSs, hardware-assisted tools and support frameworks".

"Wind River chose to support the PowerSpan II because it is an essential interconnect device in the Motorola PowerQUICC II system architecture.

As long-time collaborators, we can count on Tundra for its commitment to easing the design process and supporting designers with the tools and silicon necessary for high performance system interconnect", said Gil Hellmann, Product Marketing Manager for Reference Designs of Wind River's Embedded Technologies BTU business unit, Hardware Assisted Tools Product Division.

The Wind River reference design contains the following features: MPC8260 processor; 1.5-slot PCI mezzanine card; PowerSpan II singles-PowerPC to PCI bridge switch; 16Mbit of 32bit Flash memory; 256Mbit of 64bit SDRAM SODIMM; 8K x 8bit EEPROM; 16Mbit of 32bit SDRAM (local bus); two RS232 connections to terminal or host computer; 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet connection; standard 16-pin JTAG common on-chip processor connector; status LEDs for power, active, debug, Ethernet and RS232; hardware and software reset and abort switches; eight user LEDs, seven user switches; schematics; and bill of materials.
