PowerPC host bridges minimise CPU-memory latency
The Tundra Semiconductor Tsi85x family of PowerPC host bridges enables communications infrastructure equipment vendors to meet the demands of greater bandwidth and reduced board space.
"This agreement strengthens Tundra's System Interconnect product portfolio", said Jim Roche, President and CEO of Tundra.
"We are committed to delivering the Tsi106 and Tsi107 to our customers with Tundra's high level of customer service and support.
We will also work with our customers and partners to develop the next generation PowerPC host bridge technology.
This gives customers a long-term PowerPC system interconnect product roadmap".
PowerPC technology is based on a high-performance processor design and bus specification.
The Tsi106 and Tsi107, which are both in production today, provide a bridge between the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus and PowerPC host processors.
These devices are the industry standard and are used by leading communications and storage companies in designs for products like IP routers and ATM switches.
"Motorola is committed to providing our PowerPC processor customers with best-in-class solutions", said Bill Dunnigan, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Motorola's Computing Platforms Division.
"As a leading system interconnect provider, Tundra is an ideal company to develop the next generation of PowerPC host bridge technology.
Tundra's acquisition of our PowerPC host bridge portfolio, together with a collaborative agreement to develop next generation host bridge technology, provides our collective customers best-in-class products with a roadmap for the future".
The Tundra Tsi106 is the industry standard PowerPC host bridge with PowerPC, PCI and memory controller functionality.
The PowerPC interface supports 64bit data and 83MHz on the PowerPC bus, and the PCI interface supports 32bit data and a 33MHz frequency.
The internal memory controller has a 64bit databus with a frequency of up to 66MHz.
The Tundra Tsi107 is the next generation industry standard PowerPC host bridge with PowerPC, PCI and memory controller functionality.
