Guidelines help with Pb-free alloy diversity
Although SAC 305 and 405 have been the most commonly used Pb-free alloys to date, they do not meet all of industry's needs for all applications.
Munich show to focus on power supply segment
Power supplies and components for creating them will be a major focus for the world's largest electronics exhibition, Electronica 2008.
The process was developed as a LINK-funded project as part of the Waste Minimisation through Recycling, Recovery and Re-Use in Industry (WMR3) programme, in collaboration with Alpha-Fry and EA Technology.
The patented technique, developed at Cambridge University, employs a specially developed leaching agent.
It can release complete components from printed circuit boards for re-use, or alternatively recover precious metals and other valuable materials from shredded boards.
"We've demonstrated that the technology works well - and there is nothing else like it", says Prof Fray.
"It's environmentally acceptable and offers a new solution to the huge problem of redundant computers and other electronic equipment".
"With the future imposition of the WEEE directive, the issues of recycling and re-use will be high on the electronics industry's agenda, and companies are now looking for cost-effective and efficient ways to comply with the new environmental legislation", says Sarah Williams, Event Director at EWEX.
"Professor Fray's participation is an exciting addition to the EWEX Seminar Programme and is one of the many topical issues to be addressed at the event".
The keynote is just one of the activities happening at Electronics World Expo.
In addition to the exhibition there will be three focused seminar programmes (design, components and production) and a number of features areas including a robotics technology area featuring RoboFesta.
