On 1st January 2002, certificates for IT equipment evaluated under EN 60950:1992+A1+A2 expired.
The first products to receive safety certification with TUV-International were Belkin's premiere line of power protection products that include surge suppression and battery backups (UPS) for computers.
The cooperation between TUV and Belkin to provide international approvals for other product lines such as Firewire, USB, wired and wireless networking solutions and peripheral devices is also planned.
As Belkin is expanding internationally into new markets, a global certification partner was required.
One of the main reasons for Belkin's decision to work with TUV is its international approval service and TUVdotCOM.
TUV offers international approvals for all major industrial countries from its local offices.
With more than 300 offices worldwide companies like Belkin can have access to international approvals within easy reach worldwide.
TUVdotCOM provides easy access on the Internet to all certified products.
Each product is allocated a unique product ID code that allow direct access to the product certification details from TUVdotCOM's opening page.
TUV certifies products that have successfully passed the tests necessary to demonstrate compliance with the relevant national requirements.
The test certificate shows details of the standards to which products have been tested.
This aids consumers with their retail decision, as they can rely on the independent judgement and neutral stance of the TUV.
Stefan Boensch, Regional Director - Central Europe for Belkin, said: "Belkin has decided on TUV Rheinland certification, because TUV is internationally represented and Belkin can be guaranteed a uniform product certification process in all markets".
He went on to add: "TUV is also known by consumers especially with regard to safety and quality".
