Syfer Technology's innovation has been recognised, with its latest tiny, yet high-capacitance, Y2/X1 compliant surge protection capacitors gaining coveted TUV certification.

Syfer is the first manufacturer in the world to achieve this accolade for such a component in this capacitance range, in an 1808 case size.

The diminutive dimensions of the range, together with their capacitance values of from 4.7pF to 1nF, make them ideal for manufacturers of ever-smaller, fully safety approved products such as modems.

Kieran O'Brien, General Manager of TUV International, the Birmingham-based office of the TUV Rheinland Group, which has its headquarters in Cologne, presented Syfer's Engineering Section Head, Clive Youngs, with the TUV Certificate.

"This is a unique product", commented O'Brien, "because Syfer has managed to produce a Y2 product at such a high capacitance value, up to 1nF, in a small package size".

Besides being an independent, industry-recognised hallmark of design excellence, TUV certification is based on an annual inspection of production standards and processes to guarantee consistency.

We are thrilled to gain this TUV certification", says John Plaskett, Managing Director of Syfer Technology, which claims to be Europe's leading manufacturer of ceramic multilayer capacitors.

"Not only does it confirm our quality standards and engineering expertise to our existing customers, but it also comes at an ideal time, as we continue to expand into the USA and Far Eastern markets".

Built using COG and X7R dielectrics, the compact 1808 SY2 range of devices have a rated voltage of 250V AC and meet the electrical requirements of IEC60384-14:1993 and EN132400:1994 standards.

They also meet the 1500V RMS isolation requirements of UL60950 (formerly UL1950).

The extended1808 range, unique to Syfer, expands the firm's extensive lineup of surge protection and safety capacitors, which also includes, 2211, 2215, 2220 case sizes in Y2/X1 and Y3/X2 ratings using both X7R and C0G dielectrics, with capacitances ranging from 4.7pF to 10nF.
