Telit to design Eurocopter monitor system

A Telit Wireless Solutions product story

Telit Wireless Solutions and Eurocopter have signed a three-year cooperation agreement to develop a configuration management monitoring system for helicopters.

Under the terms of the RFID-Aero research and development project, Telit's short-range division, Telit RF Technology, will develop a wireless communication system for the civilian helicopter manufacturer that will monitor critical helicopter components.

Each of these components is fitted with an Active RFID tag, based on Zigbee standard protocol.

Information about the current status of the component is transmitted to a central system.

From there, the information is transferred to a back-end server so that it is possible to monitor the helicopter's overall configuration.

Christian Feuillebois, RFID research project manager at Eurocopter, said: 'Should the development project prove to be a success, this could mean a long-term reduction in maintenance costs on our helicopters.
